Maderra, in partnership with Stress Engineering Services, completed the EPC and Installation of a real-time Subsea fatigue monitoring system. In Phase 1 the system was deployed on the BOP and LMRP of two wells of HSE from the Seadrill West Aquarius. Data was collected over the drilling campaign and in Phase II, the systems were removed and the data was analyzed to determine real versus predicted fatigue life of the risers and subsea components.
Phase I: Maderra, in partnership with Stress Engineering Services, completed a Study for HMDC with the objective to evaluate the response of the subsea well system from an impact with an object representing a potential iceberg impact. The analysis included identifying the expected mechanical or structural failures, their sequence, the expected weakest point of failure, impairment of mechanical or hydraulic systems which may affect operation of downhole equipment, and any other failure that could potentially cause a loss of containment.
Phase II: This follow-on phase included a more detailed model of the subsea equipment and the 3D model of an iceberg. The objective of this Phase was to evaluate the response of the specific subsea well system from an impact with an iceberg. As with phase I, the analysis included identifying the expected mechanical or structural failures, their sequence, the expected weakest point of failure, impairment of mechanical or hydraulic systems which may affect operation of downhole equipment, and any other failure that could potentially cause a loss of containment. In addition, the results were evaluated to identify mitigation measures that could be implemented to any part of the subsea well system.
Maderra has entered into a multi-year service agreement to provide Engineering, Project Management and Personnel to support the development of offshore wind projects in Atlantic Canada.
