Maderra Personnel is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Hydro Plant Operator in Muskrat Falls, NL.

Located in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Maderra Engineering Inc. provides project management, project services, engineering, technical and personnel services to the Energy, Resource, and Commercial sectors. Responsibilities

•Operates the generating plant and performs regular inspections of all generation facilities and reports deficiencies; prepares, checks and carries out switching orders and observes indicating and recording instruments to ensure adequate flow of electric power to meet demand and to prevent overloading on generating and associated systems; periodically inspects support structures and associated equipment to detect deterioration or malfunction; may participate as a member of the plant emergency organization and responds to all plant emergencies. May be required to work at heights up to 10m.
•Responsible for mentoring Power System Operator (PSO) apprentices and supporting the stewardship of these apprentices through the PSO program and support the development of operating procedures and participate and administer the Company work protection system as sub-systems are energized and turned over from the Project contractors.
•The Plant is operated 24/7 and the role will require shift work.

REQUIREMENTS

•High school graduation supplemented with a journeyperson certificate (blue seal trained) as a Power System Operator. Shall have a thorough knowledge of all regulations and safety rules. Must possess an appropriate valid driver’s license.

Maderra Personnel is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Construction Power Electrical Inspector in Muskrat Falls, NL.

Responsibilities

•Oversee all activities and functions of the Electrical Inspectors and will be accountable for their activities
•One point of contact for electrical technical assistance that affects the site as a whole
•Develop electrical policies, procedures, methodologies and codes of performance for contractors to provide a baseline of acceptability from which conduct and product will be measured and accepted.
•Responsible for the maintenance and inventory of supplied PPE including arc flash equipment
•Review Emergency Response to electrical incidents with the Site Emergency Response team to ensure they have specific electrical safety training and are familiar with approved methods for the release of shock victims.
•Develop and implement permits to control the release of energy on the project, regardless of generated or utility power.
•Provide project control duties on site to monitor contractors, troubleshoot problem areas, and ensure all electrical installation is in accordance with design including any design changes, witness testing and recommendations.

REQUIREMENTS

•Industrial Master Electrician with a minimum of 15 years’ experience in medium and low voltage electrical distribution, protection and control systems
•Fully trained and knowledgeable with CSA Z-462- electrical workplace safety standard
•Experience in the design of electrical primary and auxiliary systems
•Experience in isolation and switching operations for medium and low voltage distribution systems
•Competency as defined in CSA Z-462 (4.1.6.4.1- Qualified Persons)

Responsibilities

•Responsible to Area Manager – River Operations for the overall delivery of allocated packages) in accordance with the approved budget
•Use Spillway rating curves and reservoir storage curves to recommend gate settings for Spillway Operations to maintain target water levels in the reservoir
•Run Vista software to generate forecasted flows
•Run hydraulic models to assess impact on flow releases on downstream stakeholders
•Update dam related Emergency Preparedness Plans as necessary
•Provide support for assessment of effectiveness and installation of public safety infrastructure
•Update Stage 2 River Management Manual and Operation, Maintenance, and Surveillance (OMS) Manual as necessary
•Prepare daily Reservoir Operations Reports for use by Spillway Operations
•Work closely with River Operations and Engineering to ensure all dam safety requirements are being implemented and compliance with CDA Dam Safety Guidelines at site
•Establish Deliverable Distribution Matrix based on Supplier Document Registers

REQUIREMENTS

•2 years successful experience, in technical as well as project management and construction roles.
•Understanding of project management processes and management systems.
•Familiar with hydrotechnical principles, concepts, and modelling.
•Experience with dam safety would bean asset.
•Experience with hydroelectric projects would bean asset.

•Leveraging cross-functional input via Front End Execution Planning (FEEP) workshops to identify execution issues at key Select and Define Stage milestones
•Defining and implementing specific work programs focused on developing mitigation plans and delineating execution basic elements to confirm feasibility
•Monitors project status/issues and supports project team as required during Execute Stage
•Considered as execution and execution planning Subject Matter Expert
•Responsible for quality of work products produced as part of the FEEP process
•Responsible for monitoring and reporting status and progress of the FEEP work effort to stakeholders
•Responsible for obtaining functional and project management agreement on specified project deliverables

REQUIREMENTS

•BS in Engineering
•10+ years’ experience in oil and gas industry
•5+ years’ experience in a variety of project management and execution positions
•Prior experience includes leadership roles in managing capital projects, experience in all phases of project execution, and international assignments.
•Flexibility for international business travel as required

Requirements

•Extensive experience in weight control management and layouts in offshore projects
•Perform weight control applicable to the disciplines, in accordance with the regulations and offshore customer specifications.
•Knowledge of major systems and discipline components involving Process, Piping, Structural, Electrical, HVAC, Architectural.
•Anticipate changes in weight and centre of gravity on the project and offer solutions when problems arise in collaboration with the disciplines.
•Perform analysis of weight and centre of gravity of the projects.
•Experienced in Weight Management lifecycle including projects at Concept stage through Detail designs.
•Experience with actual Weighing operations in the yard/ field.

Responsibilities

•Review of Contractor’s planning and scheduling deliverables including, but not limited to, the Schedule Development and Control Plan, Control Schedule Baseline Document and the Control Schedule, as required.
•Review of weekly and monthly contractor schedule deliverables and progress highlighting any trends, areas of concern and requirements for corrective action.
•Evaluation and assessment of Company and Contractor’s Change Requests, including performing Time Impact Analyses, and assessing the impact on the overall project schedule.
•Progress monitoring and reporting including analysis of contract and project schedules to highlight risks and areas of concern.
•Facilitate coordination between Contractors and between Contractors and Staff in regards to short, intermediate, and long-term planning.
•Participate in construction coordination meetings.
•Assist Project Delivery Team in assessing Contractor’s schedule and progress performance.
•Participating in the development and implementation of “work-grounds” and mitigation plans.

REQUIREMENTS

•Technical Diploma, University degree in engineering or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
•Significant planning experience (8 -15 years) on large engineering and construction project with a focus on heavy civil and industrial projects.
•Experience in working as part of diverse work teams.
•Demonstrated proficiency in the use Primavera P6.
•Commercially astute.
•Experience in claims management and productivity analysis is an asset.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English).
•Experience with large national and international construction contractors.
•Experience with multiple forms of contracting.
