Maderra Personnel is currently seeking a qualified individual for the position of Project Engineer (Transmission and Distribution) in St. John’s, NL.
Located in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Maderra Engineering Inc. provides project management, project services, engineering, technical and personnel services to the Energy, Resource, and Commercial sectors. Responsibilities:
-Provide technical support to the Project Manager
-Travel to various project sites regularly (typically monthly during times of ongoing construction work) to provide construction team support and project verification activities
-Prepare and review tender packages
-Prepare tender packages
-Review shop drawings, where required
-Identification of all materials required for successful project completion
-Ensure contractors adhere to the NLH Contractor Safety Management Plan
-Coordination of materials including tracking, where necessary
-Coordinate engineering activities related to assigned projects and provide technical input
-Support the development Risk Matrices, Coordination Meetings
-Support the development of estimates and schedules for project work
-Professional Engineering Designation with PEGNL
-Experience in project engineering for multidisciplinary scopes
-Experience in transmission and distribution construction is a key asset
-Experience working on industrial sites
-Detailed knowledge on project risk evaluation and management is an asset
-Excellent computer skills including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office
-Ability to work in a dynamic work environment
-Training certification in Defensive Driving, Powerline Hazards, Emergency First Aid, Fall Protection, and Trenching and Excavating will also be considered an asset
-Must have a valid Canadian driver’s license with Government Drivers Abstract acceptable to NLH
-Criminal records check that is acceptable to NLH

Responsibilities
•Participate in P&ID, HAZOP, LOPA and other design reviews.
•Support the design and configuration of PLC and DCS systems.
•Prepare high quality instrumentation and controls documentation.
•Assist with the integration of process automation systems.
•Support instrumentation design.
•Participate in the installation and commissioning of the new automation and instrumentation systems.
•Minimum of 5 years automation experience
•Bachelor’s in engineering or Diploma in Technology in a related field
•Must have APEGA registration as a P.ENG. or P.L.(Eng)
•Knowledge and experience with PID’s, Shutdown Keys, Control Narratives, Instrument Index, Datasheets, etc.
•Knowledge and experience in PLC systems an asset (Rockwell preferred).
•Knowledge and experience in a DCS an asset (Delta V preferred).
•Software proficiencies: MS Office, MS SQL, MS Excel, VBScript, Access an asset.
•Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities:
Site investigations for P&C design packages
Preparation of P&C detailed design drawings
Preparation and/or checking of protective relay and other P&C device settings (reclosers, sectionalizers, fuses, etc.)
Detailed checking and sign-off of P&C detailed design drawings prepared by other engineers
Review of vendor submitted P&C drawings
Development of commissioning documents
Specification and selection of P&C equipment
P&C procurement preparation and support including materials management
Construction and commissioning support (both on site and remote)
Other tasks as assigned in relation to P&C engineering
Bachelor of Engineering Degree (Electrical) with a minimum of 15 years of relevant P&C engineering work experience with/for an electric utility
Registered with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador
Experience in preparing P&C specifications, schematics, and wiring diagrams
Experience in preparing protective relay settings and protective relay coordination using Aspen OneLiner
Effective written and verbal skills
Travel to site is required to collect field information for designs and to support construction and commissioning efforts.
A valid driver’s license will be required as there will be travel involved.
Travel to remote locations required.

Provide technical support to the Project Manager on various projects;
Review tender packages prepared by other consultants and contractors;
Review shop drawings prepared by contractors and vendors;
Prepare tender packages for contracts;
Prepare requests for proposals (RFPs);
Provide technical input as a design team member for projects and other technical documentation;
Direct and supervise consultants and contractors during the completion of specific engagements;
Review and approve reports prepared by consultants;
Attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) as required; and
Travel to various sites regularly to provide technical input and field support.
Engineering Degree;
EIT or up to 5 years of experience in construction projects;
Experience in building architectural and/or civil design and construction;
Excellent computer skills including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office;
Ability to work in a dynamic work environment; and
A valid driver’s license will be required as there will be some travel involved.
